Mzansi responded to a viral Twitter video of a "12-year-old" who trashed his mom's house because she took away his iPhone. In the video, a woman can be heard whimpering and in disbelief at the damage done to her home.

She walks through her house recording, and everything is broken and looks like it was bashed with a heavy tool.

South Africans were shocked by this video and chimed in with different opinions on why the boy behaved in such an extreme manner.

@KopediAphane asked:

"A 12-year-old did that over a phone? What if it was a burglary? I find it hard to believe that a 12-year-old could do that."

@SkSebata tweeted:

"Signs of single parenting and a spoiled child. Absent fathers to blame as well."

@Sandile12169 suggested:

"Ake nisboleke yena u 12 years old lowo ngapha kwaNongoma sike sithi ukuxoxa naye mbijana."

@Tebelloomk said:

He most likely has a dead beat dad and his poor mom has been soft on him his entire life. Now he disrespects her and thinks he pays the bills. Violence on a boy child will always work. Not saying abuse the kid, but he definitely needs to know his place!

The boy's mom comes forward with her side of the story

The boy's mom cleared things up on social media, saying she is not chasing clout and the damage done to her property is real. She says her kid is actually 15 years old, has mental health problems, and was going through an episode when he trashed everything.

@LoyisoCebisa commented:

"No, the boy had an episode. He hadn't taken his medication in a while."

@AccidentalPDQ pleaded:

"Ms Shania, PLEASE PLEASE involve the authorities. That extended level of violence over a phone is akin to addiction. Please protect yourself and your baby. Please don’t be afraid to ask for help to keep yourself and the baby safe."

@fwshirleybae23 added:

"I understand completely my older brother is autistic and has done the same thing even worse many times. Just because he was mad and whooping didn’t help. My mom visits him now at a place where they keep him."
