A woman was shocked to discover that her long-term partner is a close relative. The distressed woman revealed that she was adopted at birth and never knew that the people who raised her were not her biological parents.

To complicate matters, the couple has three children together, Daily Mail reports.

According to her, the truth emerged recently when her mother was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer. As she began to investigate, she discovered her birth mother and several siblings, revealing that her fiancé was her relative, though they have different fathers.

Way forward for the couple?

The revelation came as the couple prepared to make their relationship official with a wedding.

After discovering the truth, the woman and her baby daddy immediately separated and called off their wedding. However, they are unsure how to explain the situation to their three kids.

She shared her sadness about how they "obviously can't be together" although "love each other so much".

"My world has imploded... I'm not okay," she cried.
