Puso Dithejane has beaten Robert Lewandowski to a major Chicago Fire accolade after being named the club’s Player of the Month for July and August. The 22-year-old South African winger produced four goals and three assists during the period.

Dithejane’s recognition comes during an impressive run for Chicago, who won six consecutive matches before their 2-2 draw with Seattle Sounders on 29 August. The club announced the honour on their X account:

Dithejane joined Chicago from TS Galaxy in January 2026 after previously coming through the Kaizer Chiefs development system.

His breakthrough has accelerated since the MLS resumed after the FIFA World Cup. He scored against Inter Miami and Orlando City before producing a two-goal performance against Cruz Azul in the Leagues Cup.

Chicago’s official website has also highlighted his attacking contribution during the club’s recent winning run.

Lewandowski adds another layer to Dithejane’s rise

The award is particularly notable because Lewandowski is also enjoying an impact-filled start to his Chicago career.

The Polish striker scored the winner against Orlando City on 19 August, while Dithejane also found the net in the 2-1 victory

For Dithejane, the latest honour provides further evidence of his growing influence in MLS.

The 2026 MLS Salary Guide listed his base salary at US$250,000 (about R4.1 million), while his guaranteed compensation stood at US$283,252 (approximately R4.7 million). The figures offer further context to the 22-year-old’s growing career in the United States.
