Jasper Wiese has revealed how highly a Springboks series victory over the All Blacks would rank for the current squad, with the No.8 making a significant comparison ahead of Saturday’s decider in Baltimore.
The Springboks lead the Rugby Greatest Rivalry series after their 29-24 victory at FNB Stadium on 5 September. A win on 12 September would give South Africa a series triumph that Wiese says would stand alongside some of the current team's biggest achievements.
Wiese reveals what series win would mean
“For this group it would be an amazing achievement. We take it as seriously as the other tournaments we’ve won as well,” Wiese told Rugby365.

“The last series was in 1996, which the All Blacks won, so for this group to be on the cusp of achieving something special – not just for the players, but the coaches and everyone else involved, it would be very special for us.”
Wiese added:
“In that regard it’s just as special as any of those other series in comparison.”
Springboks loose trio makes history
The 29-24 win at FNB Stadium also produced a milestone for Wiese, Siya Kolisi and Pieter-Steph du Toit. The trio made their 18th Test start together, surpassing the previous Springboks record for a loose-forward combination.
Wiese admitted he only learned of the achievement after the match.
“It’s a massive privilege to play with guys like Siya [Kolisi] and Pietie [Pieter-Steph du Toit],” he said.
Wiese said their connection had grown beyond their work on the pitch, adding that the shared achievement made the record even more meaningful.
“It’s special to have built a relationship not just on the field but off it with those guys as well.”
The trio will have another chance to extend their record when the Springboks meet the All Blacks in the series decider in Baltimore on 12 September.
