Williams had been widely regarded as one of the standout young talents in the Chiefs catchment area, representing the organisation's Under-18 identification squads while also making his mark in First XV competition at school level.

He embodied everything we look for in our young men: resilience, humility, fierce pride in his roots, and an unrelenting passion for the game.
"Our deepest aroha and thoughts are with his parents, his siblings, his wider whānau, and all who had the privilege of walking alongside him in his journey."
Chiefs management confirmed that counselling, cultural welfare support, and pastoral care have been made available to junior development squads, schools connected to the programme, and academy staff.
Community gathers to honour a young warrior
At FMG Stadium Waikato and the team's high-performance training base, coaches and senior players gathered for a karakia in quiet reflection. At Williams' school, teammates performed an emotional haka in his memory.
Rising through grassroots rugby within the Chiefs region from a young age, Williams had built a reputation for his commanding presence and the ease with which he stepped up at representative level. Those who played alongside him described a young man whose humility and warmth were as defining as his ability with the ball in hand.
No cause of death has been confirmed publicly at this stage.
Rugby legend dies after cardiac arrest
