A young South African boy became the talk of the internet after going head-to-head with an American child in a late-night dance-off at Times Square, New York. The clip was shared on TikTok by @pitchlegends88 on 11 September 2026 and quickly racked up thousands of comments.
The video was set up as a "versus" competition, complete with country flag emojis and a VS graphic on screen. Both boys appeared to be under 10 years old.
American boy opens strong
The American boy went first, dressed in black shorts, a blue shirt and a backwards cap. He jumped, waved his arms and threw out his best moves to a cheering crowd. Throughout the routine, the South African boy, nicknamed Jerry in the comments, stood nearby and cheered him on enthusiastically.

It was a moment many viewers later noted with amusement. Jerry was hyping up his opponent, knowing full well what was coming.
Jerry steps up and steals the crowd
When Jerry's turn arrived, he unleashed something entirely different. His style was rooted in classical South African social dance: fast, ground-connected footwork, fluid body movement from shoulders to feet, and a natural groove that synced deeply with the music. The crowd, many of whom appeared to be Americans, stopped and stared. Several visibly could not believe what they were seeing from someone so young.
South African dance styles like Amapiano, IsiPantsula and Gqom are known for prioritising whole-body rhythm and communal energy over the acrobatics or technical isolation more common in Western street dance. Jerry embodied all of that, and the crowd responded accordingly.
