Munster number eight Gavin Coombes claimed he was grabbed in the groin area during a first-half ruck in the round 4 fixture at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin. Coombes raised the complaint with referee Andrew Brace at the time, but no action was taken on the field. The alleged incident occurred in the 37th minute.

The URC confirmed the citation on Monday, stating that the citing commissioner had referred the matter to a judicial panel. In an official statement, the governing body said:

"The citing commissioner in charge has made a complaint about an act of foul play by the player (Tadhg Furlong No 3) against opponent Gavin Coombes (No 8)."
The complaint was lodged under Law 9.27, which states that
"a player must not do anything that is against the spirit of good sportsmanship including but not limited to grabbing, twisting or squeezing the private parts."
The URC added that arrangements for the disciplinary process were in progress and would be announced in due course. Leinster head coach Leo Cullen, in quotes carried by the BBC, described it as a "serious matter" for the citing commissioner to address.

Suspension could affect Ireland's November schedule
If found guilty, Furlong, 33, faces a minimum 12-week ban under World Rugby regulations, with the top-end sanction exceeding 24 weeks. Any suspension would apply across all competitions.
Ireland are scheduled to face Argentina, Fiji and South Africa in the Nations Championship in November, fixtures Furlong would miss if banned.
There is precedent for sanctions being reduced based on a player's disciplinary history. England prop Joe Marler received a 10-week ban in 2020 after a similar incident during a Six Nations match. More recently, South Africa's Jan-Hendrik Wessels was handed a nine-match suspension for a similar offence against Josh Murphy during the Bulls' URC win over Connacht.
Furlong is a key figure in Leinster's front row and a regular starter for the Ireland national team and the British and Irish Lions.
Springbok defeats show a blueprint for beating SA

The data shows that winning sides averaged 29.9 points, with six of the eight scoring 25 or more, but two of those victories came from just a single try each
