Ireland’s preparations for their November clash with the Springboks have taken a hit, with centre Garry Ringrose facing a spell on the sidelines because of a hamstring injury.

The 31-year-old is expected to miss Ireland’s first three Nations Championship Tests next month, leaving the team without one of their experienced options in midfield.

The Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) confirmed the injury update on Tuesday, 27 October 2026. Ringrose will remain with Leinster to continue his rehabilitation instead of joining Ireland’s preparations for the upcoming internationals.

His absence could be a concern for Ireland as they prepare to host the world champions at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium on Saturday, 21 November.

Garry Ringrose injury leaves Ireland with midfield questions

Ringrose has earned 76 international caps and is an established presence in Ireland’s midfield. He missed Leinster’s 24-18 United Rugby Championship win over Munster last Saturday after sustaining a hamstring injury.

In its latest squad update, the IRFU stated:

“Garry Ringrose (hamstring) is unlikely to be involved in the forthcoming matches against Argentina, Fiji and South Africa in Dublin and will continue his rehabilitation with Leinster.”

Ireland begin their campaign against Argentina on 6 November before facing Fiji on 14 November and South Africa a week later.

Ireland injury update raises further concerns

Ringrose is not the only player whose fitness is being monitored. Utility back Jimmy O’Brien sustained a concussion during the weekend and is following the required return-to-play protocols.

The IRFU said O’Brien would follow “a graduated return with the aim of resuming full training later this week”.

Fly-half Sam Prendergast is also recovering from a wrist injury. The union confirmed that he was progressing and would continue his rehabilitation with the national squad.

Springboks clash approaches without replacements

Head coach Andy Farrell has not called up replacements following the latest injury update. Ireland will therefore continue preparations while monitoring the affected players.

For the Springboks, Ringrose’s likely absence removes an experienced option from Ireland’s midfield. However, the hosts still have other centre options, and South Africa cannot assume the change will decide the outcome.

With the Dublin Test scheduled for 21 November, Ireland’s fitness updates will remain important as the Nations Championship approaches.

Ireland name 36-man squad ahead of Springboks showdown

Briefly News also reported that Ireland head coach Andy Farrell named a 36-man squad for the November internationals, welcoming back 3 experienced players ahead of the Springboks Test on 21 November 2026.

The selection also includes fresh faces, but Ireland must manage injury concerns ahead of the Dublin showdown.
