Esterhuizen's Long-Running Ties to KwaZulu-Natal
The Springbok utility back first relocated to Durban in 2013, aged 19, to pursue a professional career with the Sharks. He left the province during 2020 to join English club Harlequins, where he spent four seasons before returning to KwaZulu-Natal in 2024.
He is currently contracted to the Sharks until 2030 and lives in the province with his wife Mabea and their three children.
The decision to build a permanent family residence in Umdloti signals a clear long-term commitment to the region.
Recent Headlines Off the Field
The property announcement comes at a time when Esterhuizen has also been in the news for off-field reasons. A report recently surfaced concerning a racial slur he allegedly made at the age of 18, drawing public attention to the player beyond his rugby career.
