Durban Gen: Mzansi's new player in the soapie game gets 2 million viewers

- Durban Gen seems to be gaining moments as they have gained more viewers in recent weeks

- The etv show now sits with a little over 2 million viewers, vast improvement from their 1.5 million debut

- Meanwhile the production company responsible for the show has cancelled their other soapie called Rhythm City

Things are slowly picking up for Mzansi's newest soapie Durban Gen. The etv show had a slow start but viewers seem to now be tuning in as the show has reached 2 million viewers.

According to entertainment blogger Phil Mphela, Durban Gen has clocked the 2 million mark. he show hit 2-million on the episode that aired on Friday, November 20th, it's 35th episode. In the episode Sbu shot Lindelani and his mother Agata, came to town.

Social media users have shared their thoughts on the milestone. Twitter user Misacras said:

"Kzn people support their own same should go to other provinces."

Sbusisi94069532 said:

"And I luv it, can never miss an episode but they need to cut down on long adverts"

Bongie08478139 said:

"Absolutely love it!"

Mphela had previously reported that Durban Gen had a disappointing debut. The new medical drama series, on its debut month, peaked with a disappointing 1,5-million viewers on etv.

Meanwhile, Briefly.co.za previously reported that Rhythm City has been cancelled after being on air for the past 13 years. The e.tv soapie will broadcast its final episode on 16 July, 2021. Entertainment commentator Phil Mphela shared the sad news on Twitter on Friday afternoon, 20 November.

The viewers of the show have also taken to the micro-blogging app to share their thoughts on the latest development. Phil wrote:

"TV: Rhythm City cancelled. Long-running daily drama is coming to an end after 13 years on TV. The show will air its last episode on 16 July 2021 at 7:00pm."

Another local drama will replace the show. According to a statement from the channel, the decision to decommission the show is part of a business strategy.

Marlon Davids, managing director at e.tv, said: "We want to extend our gratitude to the entire production staff, crew and cast for their incomparable craft." The viewers of the soapie took to Twitter to share their opinions on e.tv's decision to cancel the show.
