While 2020 was a particularly tough year for many in the entertainment industry, South African comedian Trevor Noah managed to keep his successful streak going and made the most of the challenging times.

Trevor Noah did a good job of keeping himself going through a year that was filled with turmoil and difficulties.

Despite the pandemic, the talented performer added some awards to his collection, helped the less fortunate and went house-hunting with his new girlfriend.

Briefly.co.za took a look at Trevor's top moments from the year 2020.

Won seven Webby Awards for The Daily Show

Trevor Noah continued flying the South African flag high on the world's stage. The comedian added to his list of accomplishments in 2020 and managed to scoop seven Webby Awards for his work on The Daily Show.

The awards, held by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, are known as the "Emmys for the internet content" and reward creativity and success online. So many industries were forced to move onto digital platforms in 2020 and Trevor managed to make the best of a difficult situation.

The Daily Show with Trevor Noah won the Webby Award and Webby People’s Voice Award for Humor (Social), the Webby Award for Best Web Personality/Host (Video) and the Webby Award and Webby People’s Voice Award for Comedy: Shortform (Video).

Had Mzansi social media users in a frenzy over his 'snake'

Trevor was one of many celebs that got brought into online discussions after Jackie Phamotse said that some well-known names had been using snakes for fame and fortune.

Mzansi peeps became extra suspicious about their faves, and the boredom of 2020 meant that the jokes never ended on Twitter.

The especially funny situation arose when one social media user pointed out that Trevor Noah did actually own a snake. There was a complete frenzy and then laughter when it was revealed that the snake in question was a decorative brooch on one of the comedian’s suits and not anything to do with dark magic.

Got into a serious relationship with American actress Minka Kelly

Covid-19 prevented almost all outside activity and paparazzi photos, but E! News confirmed that rumours of Trevor dating American actress Minka Kelly were true.

2020's lockdown rules provided the opportunity and Minka had reportedly moved into Trevor's New York apartment during the virus' first spike.

The pair were then spotted house hunting in Los Angeles a few months later as reports surfaced that they were "getting serious". Trevor's love life has been rather private since his career has been in the spotlight, but fans were delighted at the thought of him finding someone he cares about.

Raised over R9.5 million for multiple charities during the pandemic

Trevor's successes did not distract him from the fact that 2020 was a traumatic year for so many. The star used his platform on The Daily Show to raise over $500 000 (R9.5 million) for various charities working throughout the pandemic.

Trevor and his team on the show and at the Comedy Central network made sure that they also promoted charities in every episode of the show that went live online. Despite living far off in the USA, Trevor still managed to make Mzansi proud.
