- Supabets has suspended MacG's content on SupaTV pending an internal investigation
- MacG trended online recently when he made transphobic comments in one of his podcasts on Podact and Chill with MacG
- Social media users have shared mixed thoughts on Supabets' decision
MacG has allegedly lost another sponsor. The host of Podcast and Chill with MacG trended recently when he and his crew made transphobic comments in an episode where they discussed the LGBTQI+ community.
MacG also trended a few days ago when he called Thando Thabethe out for allegedly being a "selective" GBV activist after she did not say anything when DJ Fresh and Euphonik trended on Twitter a few days ago. Fresh and Euphonik allegedly drugged and sexually assaulted a woman some years ago when she still was still a student.
According to a letter being circulated on Twitter, Supabets has suspended MacG's content from SupaTV pending an internal investigation. Entertainment commentator Phil Mphela wrote:
"BRANDS: SupaBets suspends Mac G. In an email doing the rounds, Executive Director & Board member Sindiswa Metsing says SupaTV has suspended MacG content pending an internal investigation & MacG will remove links & company branding until further notice."
When a tweep asked if the letter was real because of the punctuation and spelling errors in it, Phil replied:
"Well judging by the fact that the Podcast is no longer sharing the SupaTV sign-up link and SupaBets has removed MacG content, as stipulated on the letter, it must be real. That’s why I ran the story even with the letter having questionable look."
Other tweeps have shared their reactions to MacG's recent controversies. Check out some of their comments below:
"MacG's numbers will soon go through the roof. I didn't know he had a podcast until the controversies that followed his opinion. Podcasting is not like radio and podcasters beef all the time, some turn controversy into numbers and learn from their mistakes."
"Some of us have been chillers before the sponsor even when Thando was a guest and we will support him again until other sponsors come on board again."
"Mac G has taken these kind of knocks through out his career. He'll recover from this. Despite making mistakes he's super talented."
"He brought this to himself. Especially in the previous episode."
In related news, Briefly.co.za reported that Old Mutual, the sponsors of Podcast and Chill with MacG, recently decided to terminate their relationship with MacG with immediate effect. MacG trended on social media following a podcast where he discussed some sensitive issues about the LGBTQI community.
Some social media users dragged the media personality while others defended him. The company took to Twitter on Tuesday, 26 January and shared a statement distancing itself from the podcast's discussion of the LGBTQI+ community. Old Mutual said in a statement:
"We distance ourselves from the harmful commentary against the LGBTQI community and humanity at large."
Old Mutual went on to say that MacG's commentary was both ignorant and insensitive.
