Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema and party MP Dr Mbuyiseni Ndlozi appeared in court on 9 March for their assault case. The case was covered by various news agencies but one anchor struck a nerve with the EFF members.

The case revolved around the alleged assault of Lieutenant-Colonel Johannes Venter by Malema and Ndlozi. Stephen Grootes from Newzroom Afrika reportedly stated that the assault case was a murder case.

Grootes quickly released an apology to the citizens of the country and to both Malema and Ndlozi. The EFF then released a statement calling on Newzroom Afrika to remove Grootes from their programming.

Take a look at the EFF's statement below:

Briefly.co.za compiled just a few of the responses left under the statement:

@DCMarobela1 said:

"Emotional parry is dangerous to our society, he apologised immediately after making the mistake. Maybe we need to remove a premature party from Parliament."

@sibongukwanda wrote:

"They would be stupid to listen to such calls. How many times has Malema made mistakes and apologised? So he is the only one who is allowed to make mistakes? This is the most stupid and useless statement I've ever seen."

@GaotlolweK responded with:

"This is the first ridiculous statement I've ever had to read of the EFF. I am saying it with conviction because I have witnessed what happened firsthand. What Stephen has done is a common mistake and he rectified it as soon as possible."

Briefly.co.za previously reported that Malema and Ndlozi were back in court for their assault case. Their assault case allegedly occurred in 2018. The EFF members were accused of pushing Police Colonel Johannes Venter.

The incident allegedly happened at the funeral of struggle icon Winnie Madikizela-Mandela. Reports say that Ndlozi and Malema allegedly pushed Venter with the reason being that Venter had denied them access into the cemetery.

Both Malema and Ndlozi pleaded not guilty previously and their lawyers told the court that Venter's evidence was contradictory.
