- A video of a Polish TV show showed a white lady using black face make-up to portray the Jerusalema singer
- Mzansi social media users had mixed reactions to the clip, although many were outraged
A Polish show has left Mzansi social media users scratching their heads after a white woman dressed up in blackface while portraying Nomcebo Zikode.
The woman then went on to sing the vocalist’s song Jerusalema.
It seemed the act was not meant to be offensive but with a deep-rooted history of offensive blackface portrayals, many couldn’t help but feel outraged.
Twitter user leefin_a shared the video on the social media platform along with the caption:
“Are my eyes deceiving me...”
The footage resulted in Nomcebo trending on social media. Twitter users weighed in with their thoughts on the strange situation.
Twitter user ZulianJoubert said:
“Why could you not just perform the song, WITHOUT black face? If you wanted Nomcebo to perform you could have arranged that? Fly the good sis out? Does everyone in this video think this is okay? How the f*ck? This racks up LEVELS of racism and disrespect. Levels.”
“Oh shit I'm guttered how dare the vanilla villagers do this to Nomcebo, the disrespect on Jerusalema and Masters KG.”
“Where Do They Get The LIVER , THE NERVE to create fake Nomcebo And Sing Jerusalema?”
“Their racism is on crack!!! It’s insane!!”
Others were not too bothered. Twitter user AgentofWMC said:
“I fail to see anything wrong here. A white lady imitating Nomcebo, amd performing here song. Stop with the drama. The aim is to look like Nomcebo.”
The stunner has been looking curvier lately and the latest pictures uploaded on her Instagram account prove it. In the pics, Zikode can be seen wearing a figure-hugging pink dress.
She captioned the pic:
"You got to feel good both on the inside and out"
Her make up looks flawless and everything is just perfect. It’s amazing to see how glammed up the singer has become since elevating to worldwide celebrity status.
Social media users agreed that sis was looking like absolute money as they flooded her comments section with compliments.
