The Brazilians gave the Orlando Pirates a sound thrashing beating them to the semi-final.
The Sundowns beat the Pirates 4-1 in an action-packed game that saw the Pirates being soundly whipped by the Sundowns in the Nedbank Cup quarter-final clash at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.
However, in the first half, it was not clear who would dominate and the Pirates took the lead in the second half.
The Sundowns showed some serious big match temperament and took the fight to the pirates by equalising in the second half and then stretched their lead to 4-1.
Social media erupted into a frenzy of joy and embarrassment as fans from both teams took to the internet to react to the match.
@kay_mahapa:
"Pirates fans angry at their players like they ever stood a chance. It’s Sundowns bafethu, just be happy the game is over and join the list of bruised PSL teams."
@_Sebarbie:
"How ya'll thought Pirates was gonna beat Sundowns is beyond me"
@MickyJnr__:
"Truth is that, there's no club in Flag of South Africa that can stand/face Flag of South Africa @Masandawana at the moment.
They are unplayable. Everything just seems to work for them. They have players who are hungry for more and a good technical bench.
Respect them. Clapping hands sign"
@MissB20_10:
"There was no need for this game Sundowns should've proceeded to the next round without playing us, I knew we were gonna lose but I didn't think of losing with a rain of goals. Sundowns have been annoying for almost a decade now they don't have competition in PSL...There I said it."
Earlier, Briefly News reported that the evergreen Mamelodi Sundowns continued with their winning run as they demolished Orlando Pirates 4-1 in an entertaining Nedbank Cup quarter-final clash at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Thursday evening.
Pirates were out to end Sundowns’ unbeaten run as they have only lost one match this season, a loss that came at the hands of Bloemfontein Celtic in the MTN8, but they could not stop the reigning Ke Yona champions.
The Brazilians started as the better side between the two where they dominated the proceedings with silky touches and possession in the opening 10 minutes.
