Months after singer Winnie Khumalo passed away, her daughter Rethabile still struggles with coming to terms with her new normal.

On Tuesday, 7 January 2025, while everyone was still buzzing from the festive rush, the Live My Life hitmaker sadly died after a short illness at the age of 51. Her death sent shockwaves across the country and was felt by those who loved her and her iconic single.

Rethabile, a singer in her own right, is still reeling from her mom's death and shares an open letter to the late singer, reflecting on her immense impact on her and others' lives.

She poured her heart out in an emotional Instagram post on 22 July. Her tribute was backed by 2Pac's iconic Dear Mama, which echoed Rethabile's emotional message to her mom.

Reflecting on life after Winnie Khumalo

Ahead of what would have been Winnie Khumalo's 52nd birthday on 20 July, Rethabile vows to celebrate her mom's life and legacy.

She reflected on how life has been without her mother’s presence:

"Each day carries your absence like a shadow. We miss your laughter, your fire, your fearless voice, and your ability to make everything possible even when the world felt heavy. You were our anchor, and your loss has left a space that no one else can fill."

"As your baby girl, I have stepped into my artistry — juggling the weight of grief, growth, and expectations from the industry. Professionally, I’m pushing harder than ever: writing, performing, and building on a legacy — not just for me, but in honour of you."
