Former ‘Skeem Saam’ Actor Thabo Masoga Risks Going Blind

Playwright and actor Thabo Masoga, who played the role of Big Boy's landlord on Skeem Saam, needs an urgent surgery to avoid going completely blind.

The former Skeem Saam actor, who previously shared that he now works as a security guard, says he was told by doctors that he needs an eye operation.

Masoga previously got the attention of social media users when he accused the SABC1 soapie of exploitation.

The actor revealed in an interview with Sunday World on Sunday, 17 August 2025, that he needs financial assistance for an eye operation or he will lose his eyesight.

The 53-year-old actor shares that the eye operation will cost him R10 000, excluding medication and spectacles.

“I really can’t afford that kind of money. My work’s medical aid doesn’t cover such operations due to its limits,” adds the Masoga.

Masoga also shared that he can’t even drive a car or hardly read or type messages on his phone because of his poor eyesight.

The actor-turned security is reportedly meeting the specialist on Wednesday, 20 August 2025, and needs to pay at least R2 500 upfront.

The Limpopo-born actor adds that he's pleading for financial help, and he will lose his job as a security guard if he can't see.

Social media user @ThisIsColbert shared a video on the X account in May 2025 of Masoga, revealing that he now works as a security guard.
