DJ Maphorisa is putting in the hard work ahead of one of Mzansi's most anticipated shows. His personal trainer, model and fitness expert MJ Maponya, has pulled back the curtain on the intensive preparation programme designed to get the Soweto Baby hitmaker stage-ready for the Scorpion Kings Live concert on 19 September 2026.

Speaking to TimesLIVE, Maponya explained that the training philosophy is rooted in practicality rather than aesthetics. The goal is not a body transformation, but rather building the kind of stamina needed to command a high-energy live show while keeping up with an already punishing schedule as both an artist and a CEO.

"My approach is built entirely on flexibility and mobility; I focus on strength and endurance. I focus on longer reps. It's not about losing weight or gaining muscle; it's about having endurance. Maphorisa isn't only an artist; he is also a CEO. He has late nights and an irregular schedule, so focusing on his lower back is part of our training," Maponya told TimesLIVE.

On 7 September 2026, Maponya shared footage of one of their sessions, which included a treadmill run with the hitmaker. The clip gave fans a rare glimpse into the behind-the-scenes effort that goes into preparing for a performance of this scale.

A trainer with A-list experience

Maponya is no stranger to prepping top-tier talent. He has known Maphorisa for nearly a decade, having first crossed paths in 2018 when the trainer worked with the Major League DJz. The fitness expert also trained Cassper Nyovest ahead of his Global Citizen event appearance, giving him a solid track record of working with South African entertainers who demand elite physical conditioning.

With the Scorpion Kings Live concert weeks away, Maponya's targeted programme is firmly focused on ensuring DJ Maphorisa takes to the stage with the explosive energy the show will require.
