Mihlali Ndamase is no stranger to trending timelines, but her latest moment in the spotlight has nothing to do with relationships or business. This time, the popular influencer and YouTuber is at the centre of a comedic roasting session sparked by her newest wig install.

Footage from a salon appointment at Raw Hair Studio circulated online on 21 October 2026, showing Ndamase debuting a glueless jet-black wig valued at R9,000. On Instagram, the reception was glowing, with followers and clients praising the seamless "no lace" finish and overall execution of the style.

Mihlali's wig lands on X

The mood shifted sharply once a screenshot of the hairstyle made its way to X. User @bblhater4eva kicked things off by declaring that the rounded, voluminous silhouette gave classic "aunty wig" energy, then doubled down by placing Ndamase's photo side by side with a well-known meme featuring a young girl in a retro mushroom-cut wig. The comparison hit its mark and spread rapidly.

The rounded, bowl-cut shape and what users described as a "church aunty" aesthetic became the subject of relentless jokes across the platform.

Zekhethelo82157 kept it brief:

"It's so ugly."

nolomolekwa went for a pop culture angle:

"These are the type of wigs John Travolta wore in the movie Hairspray."

jessrabbiiit offered a more measured critique:

"It's too big for her face."

Not everyone was on the roasting side of the fence. Several users pushed back against the mockery, arguing that while the volume was on the dramatic side, the wig complemented Ndamase and was, in their view, a gorgeous choice. The defence camp pointed out that bold, statement-making hairstyles often read differently on a screen compared to in person.
