TV and radio presenter Relebogile Mabotja has taken a firm stance against those defending suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Shadrack Sibiya online. Her pointed response to a post sympathising with Sibiya quickly gained traction on X, drawing fierce reactions from both sides.
Sibiya was arrested on 21 September 2026 at The Grand and is currently held at the C-Max facility in Kgosi Mampuru prison in Pretoria. He faces serious charges including rape, sexual grooming, and trafficking in persons. The hashtag #WeTrustMkhwanazi has been circulating online in connection with the case.
Mabotja responds to "setup" claims
What set off Mabotja's response was a post by @baloyi31560, who wrote: "I'm not his enemy nor his fan. But I can tell you for free this was a setup.💔"

The talk show host was having none of it. Quoting the post on 4 October 2026, she wrote: "It was a setup by people who know... But you feel sorry for him because you too would have done the same thing in his situation....💔" she said in part.
Her use of the word drew as much attention as the message itself, with some users rallying behind her position while others raised concerns about the language and its legal implications.

Briefly News reported that General Sibiya appeared before the Randburg Magistrate's Court on 22 September 2026.
The State revealed that it was aware of reported escape attempts linked to the senior officer, leading to his move to a secure facility.
