With the 4 November 2026 local elections just days away, social media personality Penuel The Black Pen has sparked a lively conversation after revealing he plans to vote ActionSA for Johannesburg. His post drew a wave of responses from voters wrestling with the same dilemma.

Penuel, who goes by @penuelist_ on X, posted his voting intention on 26 October 2026, being upfront that his choice was less about enthusiasm and more about a lack of alternatives.

"I'll be voting ActionSA on 04 November 2026... not coz I believe in them, but because I genuinely cannot see a better party to run JHB," he wrote, before asking his followers whether there was a better option he should consider.

Joburg voters weigh in

The post quickly attracted hundreds of replies as Joburg residents shared their own frustrations and choices heading into voting day.

@stumzastumza pushed back on Penuel's framing, arguing that voters should focus on their own party's strengths rather than pointing out rivals' weaknesses: "Please promote @Action4SA and stop with decampaigning EFF. THINK at this point, let's highlight why we're voting for our selected parties respectively and not point out perceived weaknesses in others. Your influence could be more positive and less."

Penuel was unapologetic in his reply, writing: "The EFF decampaigns itself. Some of us try to ignore it, but get attacked unsolicited."

@Rampai37084031 shared that he had previously voted ActionSA but was switching allegiance this time around: "If you're going to vote for them, don't split your vote. I did vote for them last time; unfortunately, I was tired of race politics from Herman. I'll be voting Helen coz of all the candidates, she did an outstanding campaign, and everyone was campaigning against her. Only she can fix JHB." Penuel agreed that splitting votes is counterproductive.

@sauletp16 raised a broader concern about smaller parties failing to reach voters: "The problem about all these other parties is that they're quiet. I only found out about their existence when I saw their canvas now on the side of the road. If you're serious about politics or being a public servant, u need to sell yourself and do the work, get ur hands dirty." Penuel's response was blunt: "Fully agreed. Parties that don't make noise, don't deserve votes."

The exchange reflects just how undecided many Joburg residents feel ahead of the polls, with voters openly admitting they are choosing the least-bad option rather than a party they genuinely believe in.
