A content creator hiked up a snowy Franschhoek mountain on 10 August 2026. Garfieldzar shared the video on Facebook, showing his freezing hike and a big fall.

He set off early with friends, hoping to reach the snow-covered peak. The hikers hoped to capture Mzansi’s rare winter beauty for their followers. Thick mist blocked their view of the mountain when they started walking.

The group pushed on despite the freezing morning chill and low visibility. They pushed through extra fatigue to keep climbing in the difficult conditions. Eventually, the biting cold forced them to slow down and stop running.

First glimpse of snow

They hiked for hours before spotting patches of snow on the trail. The sighting surprised the group, since snow is rare in most of South Africa. They stopped for a short break and took in the mountain scenery. After the short rest, they continued climbing toward the snow-covered summit. By the time they reached the top, snow covered most of the ground.

At the top, the group finally began their snowboard descent down the mountain. The ride started smoothly, with the group enjoying the rare snowy slope. Then the content creator lost control and crashed head-first into a rock. He was briefly knocked unconscious after the hard fall on the mountain. He later regained consciousness and safely made his way back down the mountain. Despite the painful tumble, the group finished the day in good spirits.

South Africa has seen snow across several provinces over the past few days. A cold front brought snowfall to the Franschhoek Pass and other mountain areas. Snow was also reported in the Eastern Cape and parts of the Drakensberg.
