Police Officer in the Senzo Meyiwa Trial Gives Countering Testimony to the Evidence Provided by His Colleague
- The state's second witness in the Senzo Meyiwa trial, Mlungisi Mthethwa counters important evidence given by his colleague Thabo Mosia
- Mthethwa no bullet projectiles were found on the kitchen counter as claimed by the state's first witness Thabo Mosia
- Mlungisi Mthethwa also said he and another police officer were the first to arrive at the scene, differing from the time given by Mosia
The state's second witness in the Senzo Meyiwa trial Sgt Mlungisi Mthwethwa didn't corroborate the first state witness, Sgt Thabo Mosia who told the court that on the kitchen counter, they found bullet projectiles, but Mthethwa said they didn't see any of that.
According to Times Lives Mthethwa said he and his colleague were alerted of the incident on the radio control, and an address was given to respond to a shooting in progress. He said they arrived at the scene at 20:53 pm, but Mosia testified that he got the call at 23:55 pm and arrived at the house at 00:20 am.
Mthethwa explained when they arrived at the scene they were confused because nobody was there to give them details on what happened and only noticed a hat, a crutch, and cans of beer. Because Senzo was a public figure, the police officers were excused by Captain Zwane.
“The team said as the case is high-profile it will be taken over by them so we could be excused."
This was in contradiction to what the first state witness said. Sgt Thabo Mosia told the court that on the kitchen counter they found bullet projectiles, but Mthethwa said they didn't see any of that, reported SABC News
"“When we entered the first thing we checked was cartridges. We checked and found a bullet projectile on the floor in the kitchen. We also found a hat in the kitchen with a crutch."
The second time at the crime scene Mthethwa found his colleague, who showed him everything he noticed before. Then they were directed by Gladness Khumalo who owns the house and she gave them an account of what happened while they waited for pictures to be taken by the police photographer.
Kelly Khumalo and all who were present that fateful evening said armed robbers broke in and shot Meyiwa.
