MTUZINI, KWAZULU-NATAL —South African Police Service (SAPS) in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) killed a cash-in-transit heist suspect who was wanted for a string of heists near Mtuzini on 15 September 2025. The suspect was also a parolee.

According to eNCA, the suspect was linked to 10 cash-in-transit heists in the province and a plot to murder a police officer. The police followed information that led to the suspect's location. He attempted to evade arrest and shot at the police, and, armed with an R-5 rifle, began shooting at the police.

The police fired back, and a gunfight ensued in which the suspect was killed. The suspect was sentenced in 2012 to 15 years imprisonment for a murder he committed in Gingindlov rifle that was found in his possession is suspected to be SAPS-issued.

A look at KZN police shootings in 2025

Five murder suspects were gunned down on 11 May 2025 in Hammarsdale, KwaZulu-Natal, in a shootout with the police. They were wanted for allegedly killing a 66-year-old man in Ekwandeni.

The KwaZulu-Natal police shot and killed two suspected cash-in-transit heist robbers in the Sinyameni area of Msinga on 3 July 2025. The suspects were shot and killed before they could execute a planned heist.

Five suspects were gunned down in a shootout with the police in KZN on 8 September. The suspects were wanted for various crimes, including house robberies, murder, and extortion.
