KWAZULU-NATAL — Two women were shot while seated inside a vehicle on Jabu Ngcobo Road near Dawncrest, KwaZulu-Natal, on Friday, 7 August 2026, leaving the driver in a critical condition.
The Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Operations Centre received several calls from members of the public reporting the incident at approximately 16:26. According to information gathered at the scene, two men approached a white VW Golf 8 on foot and discharged multiple rounds into the vehicle while both women remained inside.
Driver identified as primary target
The 43-year-old driver sustained multiple gunshot wounds and is in a critical condition. Her 21-year-old passenger was struck once, sustaining a gunshot wound to the thigh. Investigators believe the driver was the intended target of the gunmen.

Emergency personnel stabilised both women at the scene before transporting them to hospital by ambulance. The motive behind the shooting had not been established at the time of reporting.
Gunmen flee scene
No arrests have been made. The two men responsible for the attack fled the area after opening fire and their whereabouts remained unknown. RUSA had not issued a further statement regarding the search for the suspects at the time of publication.
Mother and daugher survive drive by shooting
In similar news, two women were lucky to have survived after they were shot in a drive-by shooting in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. The women were seriously injured after the incident and were rushed to hospital. ccroding to reports, the incident took place in Springfield. The incident occurred early in the morning of 22 December near China Mall. KZN Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda confirmed that the women were travelling in a BMW X5 and were seated in the front seat. It's believed that the women were a mother and her daughter.
Gunmen target man in brazen shooting
Previously, Briefly News reported that Cato Manor police have opened an attempted murder case after an unidentified group of attackers fired multiple shots at a 46-year-old motorist travelling along Wiggins Road on Wednesday. According to IOL, SAPS spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda confirmed that the victim was driving in the direction of Bonela when suspects discharged several rounds at his vehicle. One bullet embedded itself directly into the driver's door frame. The motorist was unharmed.
