Human Foetus Found Inside Portable Chemical Toilet in Bhambayi, Inanda

KWAZULU-NATAL — A human foetus was discovered inside a portable chemical toilet in Bhambayi, Inanda, on 25 August 2026 following a routine maintenance call that took an unexpected turn.

According to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), workers from a local sanitation and plumbing company had been conducting standard cleaning of the public facility when their suction pipe suddenly stopped functioning. To clear the blockage, the crew resorted to manually draining the remaining sewage from the unit.

Foetus found lodged in suction system

During the manual drainage process, the workers came across the foetus, which was found lodged within the suction system. Shaken by the discovery, they immediately reached out for assistance. The truck driver at the scene contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), which responded by dispatching officers to secure the location and ensure that evidence was preserved.

Police and emergency services take over

Local police and emergency medical personnel arrived shortly afterwards to take over from RUSA. A security officer was also present as authorities began inspecting the interior of the portable toilet unit. The circumstances surrounding the discovery, including how the foetus came to be inside the toilet, remain under investigation.
