GAUTENG — The wife of Shadrack Sibiya took to the stand at the Randburg Magistrates Court on 7 October 2026, reading a sworn supporting affidavit as part of his ongoing bail application. Sibiya was arrested on 21 September, in connection with sexual-crimes charges.

According to Newzroom Afrika, Sizakele Dlamini, who identified herself in the affidavit as the applicant's wife, stated that the document was intended to place on record a series of communications she received from a church figure known as the Apostle, described as an assistant pastor at ECG Church, following her husband's arrest.

Phone calls from the Apostle

Dlamini testified that on 23 September 2026, at approximately 11:00, the Apostle contacted the family through a cousin, Victor Munamodi, before the phone was handed to her. She said the conversation was recorded by her son on her own device.

According to her affidavit, the Apostle conveyed that the complainant, referred to throughout as Mr M and identified in court proceedings as Mr Maumela, had been trying to visit the family home. The purpose of that intended visit, as relayed by the Apostle, was to discuss the arrest and signal a willingness to withdraw the case against Sibiya.

The Apostle reportedly told Dlamini that the idea to withdraw had come directly from Mr Maumela and that the Apostle himself had not raised it, not knowing how it would be received, and had been relieved when Maumela brought it up first.

Maumela's alleged change of heart

Dlamini's affidavit further stated that when she asked why Mr Maumela had arrived at this position, the Apostle conveyed two key points. First, Maumela had reportedly been moved after witnessing Sibiya weeping during a court appearance the previous day. Second, certain unnamed individuals, referred to by the Apostle as "these guys," had allegedly been approaching Maumela and pressuring him to, in the Apostle's words, "give the guy to them."
