GAUTENG — North West businessman Suliman Carrim has been granted bail by the Pretoria Magistrate's Court following multiple failures to appear before the Madlanga Commission and produce required documentation.
Carrim appeared in court on 28 October, where charges under Section 6(1) of the Commissions Act No. 8 of 1947 were formally read. The charge centred on his failure to appear before the commission on 14 August 2026, as well as his continued non-compliance with documentation requests.

Carrim was arrested on 15 October at OR Tambo International Airport as he was about to board a flight to Dubai and Saudi Arabia. He had described the trip as a spiritual journey. His arrest came after a warrant was issued following his continued absence from the commission.
Strict bail conditions imposed on Carrim
While he was granted bail of R100,000, the court also imposed strict conditions. The businessman will have to hand over his passport, report weekly to a police station and is ordered to make contact with the Madlanga Commission within 48 hours.
He will also remain behind bars for now. Carrim will return to Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Centre in Pretoria until his next bail application on Friday, 30 October 2026. He will appear in a court in Musina, facing charges of attempted theft of motor vehicles, uttering and money laundering.
The charges stem from allegations that he colluded with employees to attempt to take two Absa-financed vehicles out of South Africa using fraudulent bank authorisation documents. The vehicles were intercepted at the Beitbridge border post in Musina on 22 July 2026.
