Award-winning South African content creator BellaMonsoon shared a chilling update on the Van Dyk Park murder case on 7 October 2026, revealing that the two young victims may have been killed simply for doing the right thing.

Jessica Rabe, 20, and her boyfriend Yudistan "Udestin" Pillay, 25, vanished from Boksburg in mid-July 2026. For six agonising weeks, their families, community members, and private investigators searched with no answers. On 30 August 2026, a tip-off led South African Police Service Search and Rescue units to a residential property on Wildevy Crescent in Van Dyk Park. Beneath concrete and carefully placed plants, they found the couple's decomposed bodies wrapped in plastic.

The alleged motive behind the murders

According to the state's version shared by media reports, presented during bail proceedings at the Boksburg Magistrate's Court, Jessica and Udestin were not random victims. Prosecutors allege that one of the accused, Haroon Rashid Adam, 27, had been planning a hit on his neighbour, who was going through a divorce. The couple reportedly discovered the plan and chose to warn the woman. She then successfully obtained a protection order against Adam.

The state alleges that this act of courage cost them their lives.

Detective testimony described how the couple were allegedly abducted and taken to an area near the Gosforth Toll Plaza on the N17 highway, where they were forced to consume Two-Step, a toxic black-market rat poison used to kill rodents. When the substance failed to work, they were allegedly brought back to the Wildevy Crescent property. Udestin was reportedly strangled, while Jessica had been foaming at the mouth from the poison. They were then buried beneath the foundation of the house. The accused were people the couple had considered close friends.

Bail proceedings and what comes next

Adam, 27, and co-accused Wessel Hendrick Swart, 27, face charges of premeditated murder, kidnapping, assault, and defeating the ends of justice. The National Prosecuting Authority and the victims' families have strongly opposed bail. Swart abandoned his bail application, while Adam has continued to pursue his, arguing that his detention is affecting his child, who has been placed in his mother's temporary care.

Reports also indicate that Adam allegedly expressed a desire to confess, and the investigating detective testified that the case would not have reached this point without that alleged confession. However, as BellaMonsoon noted, that evidence still needs to be tested in court.

The matter was set to return to court on 8 October 2026. Jessica's mother reached out to BellaMonsoon to share a petition opposing Adam's bail release.
