GAUTENG — A desperate search is on for a pastor who allegedly fled with a four-month-old baby after raping a woman.

The woman, who is in her 30s, was allegedly assaulted, tied up, and raped near the Hennops River in Atteridgeville, west of Pretoria, on 7 October 2026. The pastor and his wife are reported to have fled the scene with her four-month-old baby.

According to an eNCA field report from the scene, the victim was approached by the pastor and his wife in Deep Sloot and persuaded to travel with them to the Hennops River on the premise of receiving prayer.

On arrival, she was washed and prayed over before a white cloth was wrapped around her head. She was then strangled, and both her arms and legs were bound.

Pastor's wife arrested

Gauteng police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi has confirmed that the pastor's 24-year-old wife has since been arrested and is being questioned by detectives.

"They are searching the area, but as I said, we have also extended the search in terms of where the detectives are exploring; they are also going to the area where they are staying," she said.
