Lynn Forbes made a significant emotional step on Monday, 5 October 2026, when she flew to Durban to witness the opening of the murder trial for her late son, rapper AKA. Known affectionately as Glammy by fans and followers, she travelled to the city on a same-day return trip, documenting the journey through an Instagram post shared from the plane.
In that post, Lynn quoted lyrics from the song Dancing in the Sky by Dani and Lizzy, a track that speaks to grief, loss, and the hope of heaven.

Inside the Durban High Court, Lynn is said to have sat alongside Sylvester Motsoane, the father of Tebello "Tibz" Motsoane, AKA's close friend who was also killed in the attack. Seven accused men appeared before the court, facing charges that include conspiracy to commit murder, two counts of murder, attempted murder, and firearms- and ammunition-related offences. All seven pleaded not guilty.

AKA and Tibz were shot and killed on Durban's Florida Road in February 2023. Speaking to the media on the first day of proceedings, Lynn admitted to carrying a sense of guilt over Tibz's death, given that her son was the intended target of the fatal ambush.
Also at the trial was the late rapper's father, Tony Forbes, who admitted he was both anxious and relieved that the long-awaited trial had begun, sharing what he hoped the process would deliver.

Lynn Forbes's complicated relationship with Durban
Durban has never been an easy destination for Lynn. She has previously spoken openly about having no desire to return to the city after losing her son there. Yet she has also shared a deep yearning to stand at the exact spot where AKA drew his last breath.
"One of the yearnings I have is to stand in the spot where he died, and just be there. I know his soul is not there any more and his body is not there any more, but that is the last place where he was alive," she said.
Over the years, Lynn has been candid about her grief, using her social media platforms to share pieces of her healing journey with those who loved AKA.
With dozens of state witnesses expected to testify, the trial is scheduled to run through November 2026, with additional court dates reserved for April and May 2027.
