GAUTENG — Three men accused of handling a Garmin smartwatch belonging to murdered Kempton Park runner Elizabeth "Tsontso" Moselakgomo are due back in court on 9 December 2026 after their case was postponed to allow for further investigations.

Kenneth Chibuzor, Stephen Sekhukhune and Danial Moat appeared before the Kempton Park Magistrate's Court on Monday, 12 October 2026. All three face charges of theft, possession of stolen property and money laundering. Chibuzor faces an additional allegation under the Second-Hand Goods Act.

How the smartwatch allegedly changed hands

Prosecutors outlined how the device is alleged to have moved through a chain of buyers. Chibuzor is accused of purchasing the smartwatch for R900 before selling it to Sekhukhune. Sekhukhune allegedly wiped the device, linked it to his own Gmail account and then sold it to Moat for R4,000. Moat subsequently listed the watch on Facebook Marketplace, according to allegations presented in court.

The allegations against the three men have not been proven in court. No murder charges have been brought in connection with this matter.

Investigation into Moselakgomo's murder continues

Moselakgomo, 38, went missing on 9 September 2026 after setting out from her Kempton Park home for a run. Her body was found three days later, on 12 September, and her family formally identified her remains at the Germiston Mortuary on 14 September.

Acting National Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Puleng Dimpane issued a public statement that day, pledging that those responsible for her death would be brought to justice. Police subsequently assembled a specialised multidisciplinary team to investigate the killings of women in Ekurhuleni.
