Millions of South Africans who rely on social grants will receive their November 2026 payments on shifted dates. The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) made the announcement on 14 October 2026, citing the need to keep payments running smoothly around the upcoming local government elections.
Older persons will be first in line, receiving their grants on Friday, 30 October. Disability grant recipients follow on Monday, 2 November, and children's grants will be paid on Tuesday, 3 November. A fourth payment date of 5 November has been set aside for beneficiaries whose grants are currently going through a review process.

Why SASSA shifted the dates
The agency said the revised schedule came after extensive discussions with various stakeholders and was formally approved by the National Treasury. According to SASSA, the goal was to make sure beneficiaries do not experience any gaps in their support during the election period. The agency said:
"The revised payment schedule follows extensive consultations between SASSA and various stakeholders to ensure that social grant payments continue to be administered efficiently, securely and with minimal disruption during the election period."
The election will be held on Wednesday, O4, November 2026.
SASSA also urged beneficiaries whose grants are under review to respond promptly to any official communication and to attend scheduled appointments, warning that failure to do so could create complications with their payments.
The agency was also firm about one thing: beneficiaries should not rush to SASSA offices. Payments will go out according to the published schedule, and the agency encouraged people to rely only on official channels for accurate information, particularly as misinformation tends to circulate during high-profile periods like elections.

What South Africans are saying
The announcement stirred strong reactions on the page, with many drawing a direct line between the timing and election politics:
Cedric Johnson asked:
"Do they think pensioners are going to vote?"
John Adams said:
"It's election time so this is how they attract voters to vote ANC."
Jannie Muller asked:
"Will there be an increase to persuade us to vote for the ANC?"
Wayne Mills added:
"Payment on a Friday means their money will be spent by Monday."
Thera Mietha tried to clarify for those who were confused:
"No, the people are going to get their November money at the end of October around the 30th. Read properly, people."
