Nhlanhla Zwane: PSL Star Confirms He Grew Up Supporting Kaizer Chiefs

Golden Arrows midfielder Nhlanhla Zwane grew up as a Kaizer Chiefs supporter and harbours ambitions of one day pulling on the iconic Glamour Boys jersey, his agent Pontsho Madumo has confirmed.

Zwane's big club ambitions

Madumo made the revelation in an interview with FARPost, shedding light on the 26-year-old's career aspirations as his current contract with Abafana Bes'thende enters its final season.

"We have spoken about the links to the big clubs. He wants to go there, play and test himself alongside the big players," Madumo said. "If you get an opportunity at Chiefs, Pirates or Sundowns, other doors can open for you. He wants the national team coach to see him because his ambition is to play for Bafana Bafana. He grew up supporting Kaizer Chiefs."

Zwane has previously attracted interest from Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns and Premier Soccer League champions Orlando Pirates. Richards Bay also lodged concrete interest in the player, though Golden Arrows declined to release him at the time.

Arrows are believed to be eager to retain Zwane beyond the current campaign, though no extension has been confirmed.

Mngqithi's role in Zwane's rise

Madumo also credited former Arrows coach Manqoba Mngqithi with transforming Zwane's career at a time when the club was uncertain about signing him at all.

"He was still on trial. Nobody really knew him, and I don't think the coach or management fully understood his position. When Manqoba arrived, he signed him and converted him into an eight or a 10. That was the turning point," Madumo explained.

Zwane spent three seasons on trial with the KwaZulu-Natal outfit before Mngqithi's arrival prompted the club to finally commit to the midfielder. He has since established himself as a key figure in the Arrows setup over the past three years.

Whether Chiefs will move for Zwane at the end of the season remains to be seen, but his agent's comments make clear that a move to one of South African football's elite clubs is the player's ultimate goal.
