Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has launched a scathing attack on the state of Buffalo City Stadium's playing surface, describing the conditions as "horrible" after his side snatched a late equaliser against Chippa United.
The match had been relocated to East London after authorities deemed the pitch at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium unfit for play — a decision that drew its own questions, given the condition of the Buffalo City surface that ultimately hosted the fixture. Antonio van Wyk converted in the final moments of the game to earn Sundowns a 1-1 draw against the hosts.

Speaking to SuperSportTV following the final whistle, Cardoso did not hold back in addressing the state of South African football infrastructure.
"This fans, they deserved something different. It's like you invite them to go home and then you give them nothing to eat. Horrible, horrible conditions to play football," he said.
The Sundowns coach also drew a direct comparison with Morocco, the country co-hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside South Africa and Spain, warning that the pitch quality gap between the two nations was growing rather than closing.
"I remember that after the World Cup South Africa said that they would reduce the distance from Morocco, but no not with this conditions. The distance from Morocco will increase more and more because Morocco understood that conditions to play football, bring better games, increase the level of the players and allows the national team to get better," Cardoso stated.
**Cardoso Calls Out the Challenge Facing Mosimane**
Cardoso also directed his remarks towards South Africa's newly appointed national team coach, Pitso Mosimane, suggesting the infrastructure challenge would weigh heavily on his work.
"There is a hell of a job for Mr Pitso Mosimane to do in the future, if the best teams to play in these pitches. It's not proper to play football," he said.
Despite the difficult circumstances, Cardoso acknowledged his players' commitment, noting that the late reward reflected their determination throughout the match.
"We made our best, we fought with all the conditions that we have. I think we were committed to take all the three points from here. And for sure in the end were are rewarded but the reward came very late, considering what the boys did during the match," he added.
