Mamelodi Sundowns are already making their presence felt ahead of the 2026 CAF Awards, with the reigning African champions featuring prominently among the early nominations. The awards ceremony has been confirmed for Monday, 7 December, in Lagos, Nigeria.
The Tshwane giants secured their second CAF Champions League crown in May after edging AS FAR 2-1 on aggregate. Teboho Mokoena scored the decisive goal in the second leg, while Ronwen Williams produced a crucial penalty save as Sundowns completed their continental triumph.
Their success has now translated into individual recognition, with several of the club’s biggest names appearing in the early awards picture.

Ronwen Williams, Mokoena and Cardoso recognised
Captain Ronwen Williams is in contention for the Goalkeeper of the Year award, while midfielder Teboho Mokoena has been linked with the Interclub Player of the Year category.

Mokoena’s nomination carries particular weight after his long-range strike against AS FAR proved decisive in the Champions League final.
Coach Miguel Cardoso is also in the running for Coach of the Year after guiding Sundowns to their second African title.
CAF has yet to publish the complete list of nominees, meaning further names could still enter the conversation.

Lagos awaits another Sundowns celebration
The 2026 CAF Awards will take place in Lagos on 7 December, with Nigeria hosting the ceremony for the fourth time. The country previously staged the event in 2008, 2013 and 2014.
CAF also confirmed on 3 October that the Ordinary General Assembly will take place in Nigeria on 21 November, ahead of the awards.
For Sundowns, the nominations provide another opportunity to celebrate a season in which they returned to the top of African club football.
