SOUTH AFRICA — Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns will contest the MTN8 final at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, 10 October, with kick-off confirmed for 18:00.
Tickets for the Durban showdown have sold out. Supporters who cannot secure entry to the ground will be able to follow the action live on SABC 1 and the SuperSport channels.
What is at stake in the MTN8 final
Beyond bragging rights, the winning club will collect a R10 million prize. For Pirates, victory would extend their recent dominance in cup football. Last season, the Buccaneers ended a 14-year wait for the league title, and they have now beaten Sundowns in each of the last two MTN8 finals, leaving their Pretoria rivals to collect runners-up medals on both occasions.

Sundowns arrive with motivation to reverse that trend. The club has lifted the MTN8 trophy only once in the past 18 years, making Saturday's final a significant opportunity to add to their silverware. League dominance has long been their hallmark, but a cup triumph over Pirates would carry particular weight given recent history between the sides.
Recent head-to-head form
Sundowns may take confidence from their 2-1 league win over Pirates in February, but the MTN8 has traditionally been a different challenge for the Brazilians. Pirates have had the better of recent knockout meetings, including their 2023 MTN8 final victory, and the Buccaneers are now chasing a fifth consecutive title in the competition.
That history gives Saturday's final an extra edge. The clubs have met 14 times in the MTN8, with Pirates holding a narrow five-to-four advantage in wins, alongside five draws.
With the final at a sold-out Moses Mabhida Stadium, neither side will have much room for error. Pirates arrive with a remarkable recent record in the competition, while Sundowns will be determined to add to their solitary MTN8 triumph since 2007.
