LIMPOPO — Former ANC Member of Parliament Boy Mamabolo has pledged to strip the ANC of its majority in Polokwane at the upcoming local government elections on 4 November 2026, citing years of unresolved service delivery failures in the area.
According to IOL, Mamabolo made the declaration while campaigning for his party, Born to Win, in Makotopong, a village on the outskirts of Polokwane's central business district. Speaking to Newsroom Afrika, he outlined a platform centred on access to clean water, functional street lighting, electricity and road maintenance.

Water crisis drives Mamabolo's campaign in Makotopong
Mamabolo painted a stark picture of conditions on the ground, claiming that more than 10,000 residents in Makotopong depended on a single reservoir for water. He alleged that the situation had deteriorated to a point where some community members were sharing water sources with livestock.

"The people here are sharing water with animals," he said.
He added that many households in the village still had no running water at their taps, and promised that Born to Win would prioritise restoring basic dignity to residents if given a mandate to govern.
"So we are going to bring back dignity into the people of Makotopong," Mamabolo said.
Mamabolo resigned from the ANC in September 2025 after nearly three decades with the party, citing internal marginalisation and what he described as efforts to discredit him. He subsequently founded Born to Win after an earlier venture, Mandela for President, ran into registration difficulties with the Electoral Commission of South Africa.

Born to Win rules out coalition with ANC
Reflecting on his time as an ANC MP, Mamabolo said raising constituency concerns in parliamentary portfolio committees had achieved little. He described a pattern in which implementation was repeatedly delayed or deflected.
"You go to parliament, you raise issues in the portfolio committee, when they're supposed to be implemented, they get new stories, they shift the goalposts," he said.
He also criticised the ANC's diminishing presence in Polokwane's urban areas, arguing that the party had grown dependent on rural support while losing ground in the city centre.
"We are confident that we are going to put the ANC below 50% here in Polokwane," Mamabolo said.
While Born to Win has indicated a willingness to enter coalition negotiations with other parties should the results require it, Mamabolo was unequivocal about one condition: the ANC would have no place in any arrangement he was party to.
