According to Rapport, former Springboks tighthead prop BJ Botha has already joined the Wellington-based outfit, while ex-Bok lock Andries Bekker is set to arrive in November.

The appointments strengthen Boland’s forward coaching department, with Botha taking responsibility for scrums and Bekker overseeing the lineouts.

BJ Botha joins Boland Cavaliers as scrum coach

Botha, 46, has reportedly been working with the Cavaliers for three weeks and will focus on improving the team’s scrummaging. The former tighthead prop earned 25 Test caps for the Springboks between 2006 and 2010 and built a reputation for his strong scrumming technique.

After retiring from professional rugby, Botha established his own scrum academy, continuing to share his expertise in one of rugby’s most technical areas. His arrival gives Fourie an experienced specialist to help strengthen Boland’s set-piece play.

Andries Bekker returns to South African rugby

Bekker, 42, has been appointed Boland’s lineout coach and is expected to join the squad in Wellington in November. The former Springboks lock returns to South African professional rugby after leaving the Bulls at the end of 2025.

He joined the Pretoria-based franchise as forwards coach in July 2023 under Jake White. However, Bekker lost the position following Johan Ackermann’s appointment as head coach. He subsequently moved to Russia, where he worked as forwards coach at Strela-Agro Kazan.

Bekker’s appointment adds further experience to Boland’s coaching setup as the Cavaliers adjust to Human’s exit.

Human was released from his Boland contract two years early to join the Bulls, reportedly to be closer to his family.
