A British mother gave her life for her children during what was meant to be a holiday to remember. The 36-year-old, from central England, died off the southern coast of Bimini in the Bahamas while on a snorkelling excursion with her family.
Without warning, strong water surges pulled her two young boys away from the shallows and into deeper, open water. She swam straight into the churning sea to reach them. She managed to keep one of her sons above the surface long enough for boaters nearby to pull him to safety. A sudden, powerful wave then swept her away before those same rescuers could get to her in time.

Emergency teams recovered her from the water and rushed her to a local medical centre via a nearby ferry terminal, where first responders attempted artificial respiration. Despite prolonged efforts to revive her, she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Authorities confirmed that an investigation and post-mortem examination are underway.
Father raises funds for the boys
In the wake of the tragedy, her husband Nathan Gregory launched a GoFundMe campaign called "Raising funds for my boys in memory of their heroic mum." In his post, he publicly thanked his late wife for keeping their children above water in her final moments, and said the funds would go towards long-term financial support and therapy for their two sons.
