A Zimbabwean woman living in the United States gave her TikTok followers an honest look at what life is like as a military spouse, and the internet could not get enough.
@lifewithtariro posted the video on 21 October 2026 while doing her nighttime skincare routine, casually walking viewers through the financial, medical and legal advantages that come with being married to a US Navy sailor. Her husband has served for more than a decade.
Immigration and healthcare perks
She started with immigration, pointing out that military spouses who relocate with their partner to an overseas duty station can receive a green card much sooner than civilians going through the standard process. That means quicker access to a US passport and the freedom to travel.

Healthcare was next, and she was candid about the contrast. Before her marriage, she had accumulated thousands of dollars in medical debt in the United States. Now, through the military's Tricare insurance programme, an urgent care visit costs her roughly $25 and an emergency room trip rarely exceeds $100.
Housing loans and other benefits
On the housing front, she explained that military families can live on base at no cost, or receive a monthly housing stipend to cover rent or a mortgage elsewhere. The benefit she called her personal favourite, however, was the VA loan, which allows military families to buy a home with zero money down, up to a qualifying limit. She added that the benefit can be used again each time the family moves to a new duty station.
She also briefly touched on tax-free shopping on base, educational scholarships for military spouses, employment assistance, and legal support before wrapping up her routine.
