Beachgoers at Scottburgh Beach were treated to a rare and astonishing sight on Monday, 12 October 2026, when a massive 3.85-metre Southern African python was discovered slithering along the sandy shoreline right near the ocean waves. The unexpected visitor drew immediate attention from onlookers along the coast.

Footage of the dramatic encounter was captured and shared on Facebook by user Nancy Palien. The video shows professional snake catcher Miguel da Fonseca, assisted by Marik, calmly and skilfully wrangling the giant female reptile off the sand and safely securing her into a protective bag.

Snake thriving since previous release

Local beach reporter Cliff Bamber, host of Cliff Bamber Beach Reports, provided key context on the massive snake during his morning report. Bamber noted that the same female python had actually been caught and released in August of last year, when she was 15cm shorter, proving she has been thriving in the surrounding natural environment.
