Parents describe a gentle giant who walked the extra mile
Tributes from the Hugo Rust parent community reinforced the picture of a man who treated every young athlete with dignity and patience. Parent Eljo Lombard described David as "a true gentleman, role model! Always spoke to his players (cricket and rugby) with respect... Walked the extra mile," adding that his passing had left a profound void in the community.
Tanja Gerber Spamer remembered him as a "gentle giant" with a "softest heart", while Tristan Hoffman called his death a major loss for the Hugo Rust family and the learners whose lives he had touched.
For many pupils, Davids represented more than a coach or administrator. He was someone who invested personally in their growth, both on and off the field.
The exact circumstances of the Paarl crash have not been officially confirmed. The name of Davids's cousin, who remains in a coma, has not been publicly released.
