Leicester Tigers have announced that hooker Finn Theobald-Thomas has retired from professional rugby with immediate effect at the age of 23, citing medical grounds.
The club confirmed the news but did not disclose the nature of the medical condition that brought his career to a premature end. Both Leicester Tigers and the Rugby Players Association have committed to supporting Theobald-Thomas as he transitions out of the professional game.
**Theobald-Thomas's Path to Welford Road**
Born in Wolverhampton, Theobald-Thomas developed through the Worcester Warriors academy and made his senior debut in the Premiership Rugby Cup against Bristol Bears in 2021. Following Worcester's collapse, he moved to Gloucester in 2022, where he made one appearance before also spending time on loan with Chinnor.
He signed with Leicester Tigers ahead of the 2023-24 season, making his debut for the club in the Premiership Rugby Cup against Bedford Blues. Over his time at Welford Road, he went on to make 33 appearances in total. Last season, he made 19 appearances split between Leicester and Nottingham, but had not featured since March following an injury.

Parling Pays Tribute
Tigers head coach Geoff Parling expressed his disappointment at the news, both for the squad and for the player himself.
"I'm gutted with this news of Finn's retirement from rugby, both from a team point of view and for him personally to have such a promising rugby journey cut short," Parling said.
"He is a loveable bloke who is exactly the type of character you'd want to be around, unselfish and fully invested in the team. We'll miss him and he knows that he'll always be part of this team."
Further details surrounding the medical grounds for his retirement have not been made public, though more information may emerge at a later stage.
