Bulls captain Marcell Coetzee will face a disciplinary hearing on Wednesday, 28 October 2026, after being cited for an alleged dangerous cleanout during his team’s United Rugby Championship (URC) clash against Ulster.

The incident occurred on Saturday, 24 October, at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria, where the Bulls secured a 34-26 victory. Coetzee received a yellow card after making contact with Ulster lock Ben Donnell during the second half.

According to SA Rugby Magazine, the flanker has been cited under Laws 9.20(a) and 9.20(b), which cover dangerous play at a ruck or maul, including charging into a contest without binding and making contact above an opponent’s shoulders.

The committee will consider the alleged breach of the laws. Coetzee’s yellow card during the match does not, by itself, determine the outcome of the subsequent disciplinary process.

The incident occurred as Ulster attempted to fight back after falling behind early in the match. Coetzee spent 10 minutes in the sin-bin before returning to help his team see out the victory.

Bulls disciplinary case comes amid another URC hearing

Coetzee is not the only URC player facing disciplinary action this week. Leinster prop Tadhg Furlong is scheduled to appear before a panel on Thursday, 29 October, over an alleged incident involving Munster No. 8 Gavin Coombes.

The latest cases bring back memories of the sanction imposed on Bulls hooker Jan-Hendrik Wessels last season. He was initially suspended for nine weeks following an allegation involving Connacht’s Josh Murphy before the ban was reduced to eight weeks.
