South Africa begin their November European tour against Italy on 7 November before facing France on 14 November and Ireland on 21 November. Coach Rassie Erasmus knows the Springboks must deliver consistent performances if they are to maintain their position near the top of the Nations Championship standings.
Erasmus expects a demanding run of fixtures after South Africa's July victories over England, Scotland and Wales.
“This is an intense competition, and every point counts, and every team we face, as well as those in our pool, will be wary of that, so we have a big job ahead, and it will be important to hit the ground running,” Erasmus said, according to Kickoff.
Italy, France and Ireland present different threats
Italy are ranked 11th in the world, but Erasmus warned against judging them by their position. The Springboks will face the Italians on home soil, where their supporters could provide an additional boost.

“Italy may be ranked 11th in the world at this stage, but they are a quality team who have tested us to the limit at times, so we will not be fooled by the standings,” he said.
France, meanwhile, will provide another stern examination. South Africa beat the French in their previous meeting at the end of 2025, despite spending a significant period with 14 players following Lood de Jager's red card.
Ireland could be equally difficult. Erasmus noted that the Irish had won four of their previous six encounters against the Springboks, although South Africa claimed victory in Dublin in their most recent meeting a year ago.
Every point matters before Finals Weekend
Erasmus stressed that South Africa would need to remain accurate and adaptable throughout the tour. France and Ireland have both won two of their first three Nations Championship matches, increasing the importance of the remaining fixtures.
The inaugural competition concludes with Finals Weekend at Allianz Stadium, Twickenham, from 27 to 29 November. Teams' positions determine their opponents, making every result significant as the Springboks build towards the 2027 Rugby World Cup.
For Erasmus, the challenge is clear: South Africa must handle three different opponents without letting their July momentum slip.

Springboks lose four World Cup winners to injury ahead of November tour
Briefly News also reported that Rassie Erasmus will be without four experienced Springboks for the November Nations Championship campaign after injuries ruled Cheslin Kolbe, Eben Etzebeth, André Esterhuizen and Handré Pollard out of the tour.
The absences create opportunities for six uncapped players named in South Africa’s 37-man squad.
