A woman jumped from an 11th-floor window into a firefighter’s arms on Friday morning. Flames were tearing through her 21-story apartment building in Berlin, and footage of the moment left many stunned online.
The fire reportedly broke out around 6:30 a.m. local time in the Friedrichshain area, near the busy Ostbahnhof train station. It started in an apartment on the 11th floor before spreading fast to the unit above it. The cause of the blaze has not yet been confirmed by authorities. Clips of the rescue quickly spread across social media platforms, with many users praising the woman’s composure under pressure.
Netizens react to dramatic rescue footage
In the footage, the woman can be seen clinging to her window ledge as thick smoke poured out behind her. A firefighter rushed toward her but could only climb two floors below where she stood. She then tried to climb down to the next floor by herself. That attempt failed as the flames kept spreading closer to her position. She lined herself up with the fire truck’s aerial rescue basket instead. Moments later, she let herself fall two floors into the firefighter’s waiting arms.

Online users flooded comment sections with messages calling her actions incredibly brave. Many said they could not imagine staying calm in such a terrifying situation. According to reports, police confirmed she was caught safely and rushed to hospital for treatment. She suffered only minor injuries despite the frightening two-story fall.
A fire brigade spokesperson said the entire building was evacuated during the rescue operation. Firefighters brought the blaze fully under control within three hours of it starting. Around 70 emergency workers and 130 firefighters were sent to the scene. In total, 115 people were affected by the fire at the building, with 13 residents suffering minor injuries during the operation.
