Rising musician Naledi Aphiwe has lifted the lid on a fractured relationship with her older sister Nontokozo Mkhize, painting a very different picture from the polished collaborations fans have come to love. Speaking on the Not Sorry Podcast on 18 October 2026, Naledi got brutally honest about what is really going on behind the scenes.
When the hosts asked whether Nontokozo ever pulls her aside over the bad press she frequently attracts, Naledi's answer was blunt.
"Ntokozo and I don't have that relationship anymore," she said, making clear that the sisterly bond fans might assume exists is far more complicated.
A relationship that runs hot and cold
Naledi, the third of seven children, explained that the two are currently not on speaking terms, with ongoing fights making communication nearly impossible. She did not shy away from calling it what it is.

"You know how siblings are; we have our ups and downs," she said, but she went further, describing their dynamic as "toxic."
What makes the situation particularly striking is that the estrangement isn't a one-off fallout. According to Naledi, it is entirely normal for the sisters to go two whole months without any contact following a disagreement, only to eventually make amends before the cycle starts again.

Adding another layer to the story, Naledi revealed that she often feels like an outsider within her own family, saying she is "not their favourite at home" and that she is routinely excluded from things.
Growing up as one of seven siblings from Inanda in KwaZulu-Natal, she seems to have long made peace with that tension.
While the family drama simmers, Nontokozo Mkhize has been quietly building her own career in the gospel and Afro-soul space. The singer, who frequently shares stages with stars like Sjava and has collaborated with Kelvin Momo, launched the Nontokozo Mkhize Foundation, which aims to "restore creative dignity in the township so children can dream young."
Despite everything, Naledi was careful not to write the relationship off entirely. She emphasised that when things are going well between them, the two genuinely get along. The seasons of peace, however brief, remind both sisters that the bond beneath the conflict is still there.
