Sindisiwe van Zyl, a popular Johannesburg-based doctor, has shared how she overcame the 2013 loss of her mom.

Writing on Twitter and Instagram, Sindisiwe said her late mom's birthday is coming up on 23 September. She added:

When she passed away on 22 May 2013, something inside me died with her. Everything was dark. I wore black to her memorial service and then gave away all my black clothes. I swore never to wear black again.

Sindisiwe has managed to wear black only twice since then, first in 2016 and then last Saturday. On the second occasion, she managed to go through the fittings without crying:

It's a big thing for me because I was able to go for fittings without crying. The happy memories of my mom are coming through and I'm moving forward from the nightmare in ICU.
