Meet the 19-year-old woman who founded a NPO that helps youth

A young woman is determined to change the lives of young South Africans through art and drama. the 19-year-old has founded her very own non-profit organisation that focuses on building these skills in the youth. Her dream is to be able to bring a positive change in communities.

Mmatshepo Rakhalakane is a trained visual artist,playwright, director, actor, poet and model hailing from Nellmapius Pretoria. She is the 2013 winner of the National Library Week SA competition under the category visual art. She has performed and worked backstage in multiple theatre productions and was part of the 2018 annual Vavasati Festival which is a prestigious theatre festival that celebrates and honors women from all walks of life through poetry, drama, music, visual art and dance.

The ambitious young lady founded an NPO called SheUnshackles. The organization focuses on the youth using art to remove barriers, invest knowledge and harvest potential amongst young people especially in townships.

She has been awarded with the 2019 True Shine Award by the organization "Every Girl Has A Dream" which honors women from around South Africa for their dedication and commitment towards bringing about positive change in their communities.

She is also nominated for the 2020 Woman Of Stature Awards which are to take place in March next year.

Her inspiring story of hard work and dedication can be a shining example that Mzansi youth have a very promising future ahead.
